Warm fleece that is also waterproof?
What did we wear before fleece? Anyone remember? Answers on a postcard… The one thing fleece has struggled to do is be both warm and fleecy and weather resistant. Arc’teryx think they’ve solved the conundrum with their Fortrez Fleece. It uses what Arc’teryx call Hard Face technology, added to the cosy deep pile Polartec Power Stretch fleece, to cause light showers to bead on contact and bounce, or roll off, without wetting the surface. Of course, we’ve clever chemicals including DWR to thank. This ability means the highly packable (17oz/482g) Fortrez fleece also retains a bit more heat, making it a warm and pretty wind-resistant choice. Ideal for chilly days, or nights, where it can be a stand-alone option, or for persistently wet conditions paired with a hard-shell jacket. Featuring a close-cut fit, without sacrificing arm movement and twin vertical zip mesh backed side pockets, that can double as vents in high output moments. The Fortrez also features a compact scuba style, helmet friendly hood with optional face baffle, perfect for those chilly early starts. It’s ideal for climbing, hiking or other active outdoor activities where cold and a little precipitation are all part of the tapestry of the experience.
