Dual angle beads improve the breed
Sometimes it’s not the headline grabbing stories that change our lives for the better, but the small, unassuming details that get announced between breathes that we savour the most. Take setting up tubeless bicycle tyres. A curse and sweat inducing job. Tough enough when they’re big mountain bike size ones, harder still with narrow hard to seat road ones. That is until now, Goodyear – yes that Goodyear has developed a twin bevel bead design. The bead of the tyre, the bit which contains an aramid or Kevlar cord, is designed not to stretch, and to press firmly against the inside wall of the rim when inflated to seat the tyre. The new bead profile allows the bead to slip into position with less air pressure, which helps to make the seating and sealing of their Eagle F1 road tyres, just that bit less of a hassle, without reducing the efficacy and durability of the tyres air tight fit with the rim. Just a tiny but valuable detail that makes life for riders a little bit easier.
