The backpack for that weekend away
Fact: There are A LOT of backpacks out there. Many of them are hyper-focused on a particular style of use or have a carry ethos that is specific and a bit one channel. The Gregory Packs Katmai 55 is a little different in that it cuts the complication for users, both in terms of what it can do, what it can carry, and who is able to use it. If this sounds like we’re trying to describe a bog-standard backpack, then you’re right, but far from that being a slight, there’s a genuine skill in designing and building-in simplicity, and not everyone can do it. Sounds odd to say, but there it is and it’s proving popular too, in fact, the pack is winning plaudits from testers from around the active outdoor media world
The Katmai 55 is versatile and easy to load with a weekend’s worth of adventure accessories. Because you often want the contents out of sequence to that in which they were packed, Gregory Packs ensure all contents are just as easy to access, without having to unload everything to retrieve errant, but vital, small stuff that’s filtered to the bottom, all thanks to the full-length side zipper.
Sizing for comfort and performance are the strong suits of the Katmai 55, the centerpiece is their FreeFloat 360 ventilated back panel which has dynamic hip pads to ensure the pack load is mounted to the user in the most efficient way possible. Further, it is made of fibers that are pre-treated with Polygiene OdorCrunch technology to keep the pack smelling box-fresh for longer. User comfort remains in focus with the Katmai 55’s auto-rotating shoulder straps, which are free to move with the motion of your shoulders, rather than your shoulder movement being dictated by the pack straps. Seems really obvious. Sometimes keeping it simple (and logical) is best.
With lots of internal pockets and dividers, to keep your knicks from mixing with your knacks, the pack is useful for those stop-start journeys or those when the weather is changing fast and you’re constantly adapting your on-the-go wardrobe.
Whether you’re walking the local trails for the weekend or setting out on a fully-fledged tall-peak expedition, the Katmai 55 is the winner.
