Give up gas, not the range

Hyundai might not have the brand cache of Tesla or Polestar, but they’re doing some pretty cool things with all electric plug-in cars. The new compact 5 door Kona all electric model is winning awards and review plaudits for is cost, efficiency, range and styling. While it’s got no specific outdoor lifestyle angle, it’s extra range along, puts in in our focus for getting away (and back) on weekend adventures. The headline grabbers are the range, always the worry of drivers preparing to step away from the ‘convenience’ of gas power, into the new world of plug-in electrics. With a maximum range of 300miles (483kms) between charges the Kona has got the appetite for long journeys, the odds are in the favour of the adventurous drivers. The 64kWh give out a maximum of kW of power and because it’s electric the 0-60 of 7.9 seconds feels faster than the numbers and a max speed of 104 the ground could pass by pretty quickly. The Kona’s battery fast charges in as little as 47 minutes to top up a long trip, with a full trickle charge taking 9hrs 15m. With base models starting at £26000 and many governments also providing credits and subsidies on new all-electric cars the cost of getting e-powered is significantly less than you might think.
