Robot built, green, and great value

The move to more eco-friendly production processes extend to saddles and Italy’s premium saddle brand Selle Italia. Their new Green Tech “combines high performance, care for the environment, Italian manufacturing and competitive pricing,” according to Selle Italia. The new Model-X saddles will be robot built using their new X-Tech production processes to make a 100 per cent eco-sustainable saddle. It’s not just the environment benefitting either, with costs of the new Model-X saddles (look for the green marker on the saddle tops) reduced to a fraction of their conventionally hand-made saddles, your bank balance is saved too! Much of the Model-X series’ new eco- friendly credentials are down to the new saddles having their component parts joined mechanically or ‘co-moulded’ to use the engineering vernacular - and not requiring the traditional glue or polyurethane adhesives – that typically have very poor environmental characteristics. The saddle hull is injection moulded direct to the FEC alloy rails, and the all-in-one Total Gel padding (there is no top cover on Model- X which helps increase comfort and reduce the production steps) are co-moulded direct to the hull. Currently only available in their ID Match L3 short nosed, wave shape Superflow model, a new model will be launched this September. The Selle Italia Model-X green saddles are exceptionally comfortable and a lot cheaper than the premium models for only a very slight weight gain.
