For when a smartphone pic isn’t enough
Sony have been on a big push to reassert itself in the compact digital camera market and the Cyber-Shot RX100 is the tip of their spear. Super-compact cameras have had a hard time in the wake left behind ever more capable smart phone cameras, but sometimes a pure-bred device is just plain better. The RX100 has a large 1in Exmor R CMOS sensor delivering a pin sharp 20.1 Megapixel image and up to 4K video. The Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens is a versatile 24-200mm zoom, with an f/2.8-4.5 focal range, ideal for detail close-ups. Sony’s own BIONZ-X processor, specifically developed to enhance light textures ensures those big sky panorama shots are properly breath taking. A 3in tilting LCD screen is, of course, in the rear, though a pop-up viewfinder. Keeping fast action in focus is always the big ask, and a 357point autofocus system grabs focus in 0.02 seconds, to assure sharp images, no matter what. It’ll shoot, continuously at 20fps, and up to 90fps in Burst Mode. The RX100 uses Sony’s own excellent S-Log2 and S-Log3 video modes for video recording and colour grading. The thing we like the most though? The NFC Wi-Fi remote control feature. Pressing the shutter via your smartphone mean you can shoot yourself – so to speak. So, it’s feature packed, but what does this all mean? We’ll if you’re going into the boonies and want an ‘actual camera’ to take photos and video – there are few that can throw shade on the new Sony Cyber-Shot RX100 V11.
