With ever-increasing numbers of full-electric and e-petrol hybrid cars being sold across the world, the move is on to create the same level of powertrain analysis for e-powered vehicles as already exists for combustion engine ones. Your local garage can flag-up issues with petrol or diesel engines with an electronic diagnostic check in just a few minutes. Up to now the same checks on the health of your vehicles electric batteries could take hours. Which means booking your vehicle in for a day off of the road – not driving you to the mountains to ski, or shred the brown-pow on bikes, or to the water for a swim, or board session of your preferred style.
Developed by Audi Brussels in conjunction with Volkswagen Group, primarily to check the health of the high-output batteries of it’s premium e-Tron models. The new diagnostic software is called BattMann ReLife (Battery Monitoring Analysis Necessity). The ability to assess the current health of your battery means that it can be optimized before any long-term issues related to depletion occur. For batteries where battery life is significant the battery can be changed, exchanged, repaired, redeployed or recycled before reaching a point of permanent redundancy.
Any tech that speeds up vehicle servicing while adding to the long-term sustainability story of the EV revolution gets the 2Fifty9 thumbs up.
